2022: Fashion Design BA Hons

Showcase

Statement

My final year work symbolises my exploration of both traditional and contemporary menswear for various brands and market levels, embracing innovative fashion design into my graduate collection.

Innovation Portfolio: Modern Tailoring using Subtraction Cutting

My final collection explored traditional mens tailoring in a modern, contemporary way. I used the innovative method of subtraction cutting to combine two of my main interests, streetwear and tailoring by incorporating silhouettes from both. This seasonless collection was designed for my own brand and aimed to appeal to the gen-z male with focus on high quality fabrics and garment construction to promote longevity and sustainability. Conducting my placement year with a bespoke tailor gave me a greater appreciation for fine detail, so I explored different seams, topstitching and fastenings in this collection. The outcome was a collection of 24 outfits fully illustrated and supported with technical drawings and two constructed outfits, one of which featured in Graduate Fashion Week’s opening catwalk show for 2022.

Bode x Northern France

This Spring/Summer collection for Bode allowed me to explore an eclectic aesthetic in line with the brands identity. Inspired by architecture and landscapes found in Northern France, I developed various digital prints and embroidery samples, experimenting with scale and placement.

Orelbar Brown x South of France

This Spring/Summer collection for 2022 takes inspiration from the South of France, the ideal destination for the Orlebar Brown customer. The collection looks at classic Orlebar Brown silhouettes, whilst modernising for the younger gentlemen focusing on style and comfort, considering lightweight fabrics suitbale for a trip to a hot climate.

Stussy x Casinos

My collection for Stussy embraced the playful, fun nature of the brand, developing graphics inspired by casinos. I experimented with different fonts and focused on fabrics and silhouettes that were ideal for consumer needs.

Balenciaga X Eric Lacombe

This collection is inspired by the work of Eric Lacombe, using his artwork for prints for jacket linings and studying his techniques and brush strokes for jacquard knits. Lacombe’s work includes a lot of distortion which encouraged distressed knitwear and exaggerated silhouettes to distort the body.
