Showcase

Statement

Design from and for the urban environment, focusing on brutalist architecture and British design. The final outcomes of this project are genderless in design and span fashion and accessories.

Final Collection

The final 20 fabrics of this project span 4 sub-collections, ‘Add on’ designs of patches, panels, and pockets to increase the life span of existing garments. ‘Accessories’ exploring quilting patchwork leather alternatives and waste denim. ‘Embroidered Surfaces’ hand-embroidered designs that explore both texture and form of brutalist architecture, combined with hand-dyed and printed fabrics forming layered compositions. ‘Textural Surfaces’ combines laser etch, laser cut, appliqué, and patchwork to create larger-scale compositions with abstract text and textural elements. Further details and images available upon request.

Supporting Visual Studies

Motifs textures and compositions of the final collection were influenced by visual studies. The final visual studies pieces were created with a multi-media approach, layering dry point prints, spray paint, photographic prints, laser etching, lino prints, and Riso prints. Textural elements were heavily influenced by the textural nature of the initial Black and White 35mm photography of brutalist architecture.
