Statement

My project revolves around site-responsive design and researching the term psychogeography.

Pyscho-Cycle

Since our project is a cooperation work with East Leeds Project, the site-responsive design is selected in the Wyke Beck Valley researching the term psychogeography.
‘Pyscho-Cycle’ is an attempt at the convergence of physical activities and digital technology in cycling, also the exploration between people and nature. Specifically, users can personalize their own cycling map adding their timely thoughts in digital forms on the ‘Pyscho-Cycle’ app. Additionally, this app has a function that users can find out more about their surroundings: the app can interact with any buildings, animals, plants, and rivers you happen to pass. Users just need to choose a photo from your camera roll, and all the related information, including the historical introduction and even previous photos taken by other people, will appear. Therefore, the cycling map is full of digital records that can be permanently saved and viewed on the profile page.

There is no possibility of separating life from digital technology since the development of digital society has become the tendency in the world. Psychogeography is the practical experience research of the geographical environment’s influence on individuals’ minds and behavior (Wild, 2020).
However, digital technology and psychogeography seem to stand in opposite positions; the virtual approach and the physical experience. The two concepts sparked my thinking that the two methods have to be opposite? Is it possible to exist in a combined way? While it is true that we spend loads of time on virtual internet space for creating and otherwise. How could digital platforms possess the same physical presence as the “real world” of the embodied senses?
