Statement

Bruh… It’s just meme, myself, and I…

My practice primarily reflects on my experience with the digital environment and communicates my perception of the increasingly technological world that we live in.

This set of work derives from my long-time experience with social media starting from the age of 9. My constant engagement with the internet from a young age influenced my mental health, and to overcome anxiety and depression, I have been engaging with philosophy as a method to confront my self-talk and critically analyse my living experience, which parts of the work showcase my contemplative thoughts on the subject. The works document a personal and, to some extent, collective generational story on our involvement with the digital environment and communicate ideas in digital people watching, self-publishing, overexposure of information, disposable connections and conversations, and the nature of our coexistence with the extended online world.

Using traditional physical methods – painting, drawing, and screen printing, the practice opposes digital reproduction, creating a paradox, and presents a combination of humanness and the expressionless robotic appearance of the interfaces we engage in. The arrangement of the overlapping cascade of works on paper can be seen as a painting itself or a large-scale collage. Depending on the varying aspects of the digital experience, some individual works minimises in composition, while others chaotic to communicate different stories.
