Designed for marginalised communities inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community and people of colour, the brand reimagines the 90s rave aesthetic in a contemporary context, questioning how one could adapt notions of community and sanctuary, which are characteristic of the rave scene, into the human response towards the climate crisis. The concept, originally put forward by Tim Morton, calls for the viewer to consider our relationship with the environment and with eachother. The project showcases a cohesive body of work with consistent colour schemes, influenced by branding strategy and subculture ethics. The DIY and merchandising aesthetic of rave culture is expressed through a series of sustainable T-shirts, tiled prints and fabric wristbands. Visual imagery of molecular forms interacting with one another symbolises the sense of harmony felt on the dance floor. A multi sensorial experience is paramount to rave culture, with the audio-visual elements portraying club aesthetics and music courtesy of Leeds based DJ’s eeTeeBee. SPEQRAVE hopes to create an inclusive brand for all, with socially aware and sustainable credentials, where marginalised communities can redeem their lost spaces after times of social exclusion.
