Statement

Fashion design student with a year in industry graduating from the University of Leeds with a specialism in womenswear design.

Alongside my design experience I have developed key skills from my degree, including a clear understanding of the fashion design process, from research to final designs and construction within a luxury context. I have gained both a practical and theoretical skillset, giving me a depth of understanding of the fashion industry. Design practice was gained through the studying of key modules, such as Design Development and Garment Technology. As well as modules encouraging the importance of looking at historical and cultural context of design, such as design history I also learnt the importance of looking into the future, considering sustainability and ethics. I was particularly interested in learning about eco-design in luxury fashion and the usage of luxury sustainable fabrics. Therefore I believe my degree has provided me with a deeper understanding of the future of the fashion industry and design practices.

My design experience includes a six-month internship at Paul Smith and a three-month internship at Needle and Thread, both as a design intern assisting the design teams. My internships have been a predominant part of my learning, as I have been able to gain experience working to a professional standard within two unique types of luxury fashion companies. Currently seeking opportunities within the fashion industry for assistant designer roles.

DION LEE X MANMADE SHELTER THROUGH TIME

My first project designing for Dion Lee AW21 was inspired by the book “Shelter” (Kahn et.al, 1973) which includes rich historical photographs illustrating and documenting the constructions of fundamental architecture throughout early civilizations.

PAUL SMITH X ESCAPISM

The inspiration for Paul Smith originated from the book “ballooning” (Wirth et.al, 1984). The project explored fun and striking photographs that evoke a sense of ethereality. Visual research gathered inspiration from the shapes, colours, and patterns inspired by hot air balloons.

STELLA MCCARTNEY X NATURES SHELTER

Inspired by animal architecture and shelter, exploring the constructions of the most outstanding architects of the animal kingdom. This project explored the delicate infrastructure of the natural world and our obligation to protect it as it has protected us through the shelter it provides.
