CORRELATE
This body of work is related to the concept of home – the location where one forms the most memories. Having lived in a rural and now an urban environment , the ‘Correlate’ series seeks to explore the connections between them both, through inspecting natural forms and manmade architectural structures. It became apparent that pattern and geometry correlate, despite having obvious physical and material differences. Images of geometric shapes and sequences were layered and collaged together to form unique designs that fall into the sphere of abstraction.
The medium of oil and acrylic paint highlights the cubist space, giving the notion of flatness and lack of dimension, juxtaposing visual perspectives and the way architectural structures are traditionally portrayed. Following this detachment away from the visual reference, colour opposes natural tones, effectively removing predisposed barriers and limitations. ‘Correlate’ deconstructs and enables the viewer to merely focus on connections between one pattern and another.
